"This is the hardest monologue I've had to deliver in our 23 years on air," Kimmel admitted, his voice cracking with emotion. "Early this morning, we lost someone truly special, someone who was much too young to leave us. I want to share his story with you."
Kimmel described Escobedo as a constant source of support and encouragement, always expressing his pride and happiness at their shared journey. "He was like an older brother, but without the baggage; just pure love and support," Kimmel said. "There was no one I felt more comfortable with."

Escobedo, known as "Junior," was not just Kimmel's bandleader but also his lifelong friend. "We were never bored; we were always up to something," Kimmel recalled. "We became best men at each other's weddings, and that bond only grew stronger as the years passed."
And this is the part most people miss... Escobedo's success as a saxophonist, touring with Paula Abdul and recording studio albums, didn't diminish their friendship. In fact, it led to Kimmel offering Escobedo the role of bandleader on his late-night talk show, a position Escobedo filled with ease and expertise.
"The idea of anyone else leading my band was terrifying; it had to be Cleto," Kimmel said. "We had our own language, a connection that words couldn't explain."
While the cause of Escobedo's death remains unknown, Kimmel expressed his gratitude to the medical teams at UCLA Medical Center and Sherman Oaks Hospital for their care. He also thanked Escobedo's friends, family, and the entire "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" team for their support during this difficult time.
"I'm grateful for the love and support we've received," Kimmel said. "Mostly, I want to thank Cleto's parents for sharing their son with me and treating me like their own."
As Kimmel prepares to take some time off, he leaves us with a powerful reminder: "Always cherish your friends. We're not here forever."
